Variaciones en la composición bioquímica proximal de la anchoíta durante tres temporadas de pesca (1975-1977) OceanDocs
Moreno, V.J.; Aizpun, J.E.; Malaspina, A.M..
Seasonal variations in major biochemical compoenets (lipids, protein and water)as well as in ash content of muscle and filletin remains of Engraulis anchoita were studied separately along three consecutive fishing seasons (May-December 1975, 1976 and 1977). Five to ten adult fish of each sex and of nearly identical length (total length: 160-165 mm)were selected at approximately monthly intervals from commercial catches at Mar del Plata Harbour. During the course of the three sampling periods, the proportions of the different biochemcial components showed a very similar pattern of variation and the difference from one fishing season to another never exceeded one month.

Variation in egg and larval quality in various fish and crustacean species OMA
Lavens, P.; Sorgeloos, P..
It is generally accepted, that a major constraint in the further development of marine fish and crustacean aquaculture, is the variable quality of eggs and larvae used for the hatchery-production of fry. Nonetheless, valid criteria to evaluate optimal egg quality have not been identified yet. Instead, particular indicators, are used, e.g. the fertilization and hatching rate, overall culture success during the first rearing period, etc., but these are not totally objective because hatchery-specific conditions may interfere. The biochemical composition of the egg may be one of the possible determinants of egg quality, which can be evaluated on a more objectie basis. In this respect, studied have been initiated to analyze in freshly-released eggs, the levels...

Variations de la composition biochimique et de la qualité des lipides des Athérines <Atherina> sp. au cours du séchage solaire OceanDocs
Bouriga, N.; Selmi, S.; Faure, E.; Trabelsi, M..

Variations in lipid classes and fatty acid content in tissues of wild Macrobrachium rosenbergii (de Man) females during maturation OMA
Cavalli, R.O.; Tamtin, M.; Lavens, P.; Sorgeloos, P..
This study describes the variations in total lipid, lipid classes and fatty acids in the midgut gland (MG), ovary, and muscle tissue of wild-caught Macrobrachium rosenbergii to elucidate the importance of these components during sexual maturation. Mature females were captured in the Mae Klong River, Thailand, from July to September 1998, and divided into five groups according to their ovarian development. Total lipid levels in the ovary increased with maturation, but no concomitant decrease in MG lipids was observed. Thus, the lipid requirements of the developing ovary are thought to be more dependent on the immediate ingestion of dietary lipid than on MG reserves. Higher proportions of neutral lipids (NL), mainly triacylglycerols (TG),...
